Cuddon Freeze Dry

Bulk density and product loading on trays

This spreadsheet is designed as a guide to help you work out the bulk density of your product and the maximum loading per tray for our Cuddon Freeze Dryers. All yellow highlighted cells are changeable allowing for your input.

1. To find the bulk density of your product fill a vessel like a container or tray with your product and measure the width and length of the vessel. Also measure the height of the product in the vessel. Ideally to be more accurate, try to use a large tray and only fill to 20mm high. This is the most efficient thickness when freeze drying. Enter these figures in the highlighted spaces below

2. Enter in the weight of the product only as kg i.e. 560gm is .560 and 1.565kg is 1.565
This will give you the bulk density of the product in the results area

3. If you know the moisture content of the product then enter this as a %. This will help with the amount that can be loaded in the dryer.

4. Choose a dryer model that is close to the your daily production rate. This will give a guide on tray loading and potential dry weight output.

NOTE: If you are working with multiple products then you need to measure and weigh each one seperately and enter those related figures. This includes the moisture content.

This is a guide and a physcial test should be done to confirm the calaculations
